Repeat same experiment for sintering because XRD ans SEM full.

Plan to do

-continue with 5 load

- weight 0.71g

-measure using weight measurement

-using alcohol to clean the tool, die ,punch upper and lower punch. Reason using Alcohol because it is fast dry

-every compaction replace , alcohol will be used to clean from any powder SiC that had been used before.

- hold 15 minute.

Experiment is start with

1) take out the sample from humidity cabinet.(humidity cabinet is used to make the powder is still dry

2) open balance weight

3) put paper or any container to put SiC powder.

4) Press rezero

5) Using spatula, put the SiC powder in the paper/container

6) Weight until 0.71g

7) Tear tissue and soak in alcohol to wash the tool, die ,upper punch and lower punch.

8) Put the small punch first on the surface of lining. put the die. Then put cone in the hole and insert the powder of material.

9) Put the big punch and lining.

10) Put them in the carver. the place to compact

11) Set the red error as 5 tonnes as load.

12) Use hand and compact the metal with push up and down until black error show 5 tonnes

13) Hold 15 minute using the stopwatch in my phone.

14) The black error is moving to 0.

15) Take out it from carver.

16) Reverse the die and remove the below lining and put the others lining.

17) Put in the carver and push up and down until sound pap is heard.

18) And take out the metal. Measure diameter and thickness.

19) Wash the die, upper/lower punch, tool and all part in tool and die using alcohol to repeat experiment for the 4 tonnes and so on.

From my observation

1) weight increased after sinter

2) diameter decrease

3) Height is increase.



From comparison

-diameter and height for every tonne is different

- more value tonne is used, diameter is decrease

- put the sample in humidity cabinet before sintering

-hardness test

-XRD to know crystalline of metal


- SEM for before and after sintering

Meet sir hadi and show my sinter product

Where are your progress report and literature review.

I don’t have laptop..hu2

But even I have laptop.i do not have idea to start.

Then sir suggests to write detail my experiment.

Tomorrow, I will do compaction and I will be showed my step for compact detail as possible.

We discuss :

-Next step booking XRD lab and do the SEM.

-Do hardness testing

- rewrite article into word

- put scale in the picture

- density= mass/volume

- properties= density,hardness(microvicker or nano indenter),thermal(later)

typing and submit to sir


Sir gives a room in SEM. If no people come in the lab to use SEM, I must do by myself. But the way, I do not stay because I have paper to midterm. And 1 week break. I do not doing anything after that. It is my fault.I feel stress because a lot of assignment and research 1st draft for English paper.gulp..

Sintering process.

Discuss with ezzah to get the time for this process.

How to calculate?

1 degree= 60 minute

We minus 1400 with 30 because room temperature for the lab is 30 degree.

Below is our calculation

1400-30= 1370 degree
1370/6( rate)= 228.3 minute

228.3/ 60 (in minute into hour)= 3 hour 48 minute.


Increase is 3 hour 48 minute and hold 2 hour.

Meeting with dr hadi.


He suggests holding 15 minute after compact and before take out the sample from the tool.

- to make the material is homogeneous.

Repeat for same experiment and I am doing sintering.but XRD and SEM is full.

- He suggests use ruler and angkup vernier as instrument to measure diameter and thickness.
this is angkup vernier. we will put middle external jaw.this is the manually.i used automatically.

-take picture pellet and ruler.
He mentions to submit report progress and literature review.

When I am coming to lab, write detail as possible in my log book.

Start to heat the metal in oven but the problem is technician got MC.

Postpone until 8/3/2012

Start compact the material using load 5 tonnes follow 4 tonnes, 3 tonne and 2 tonne.but only 5 tonne and 3 tonnes.hold 2 minute.

No detail step in this experiment because I do not write the step properly.

Next, I will explain.

I am with khairun and ezzah were to   Malaysia nuclear agency

We are meeting with dr yusuf.

Discuss about their problem.

I am submit the proposal letter to get EIT there.

Topic is : study more about mechanical and thermal properties of SiC under irriadation exploration



1)do compaction process without milling.same as khairun and ezzah step before.

2) sintering at 1400 degree celcius hold 2 hours and rate 6 degree celcius per minutes



Step

1) study properties before and after sintering using

-XRD

-SEM

-microhardness test.(after sintering)





Suggestion to etching solution is acid fluoride in ceramic metal

- but it is dangerous

- before this ceramic metal is not to going etching.after grinding using soft sand paper.polish using the alumina. We does not proceed to etch because we do not have this solution.



Recommendation
Polish with properly before see under SEM, or doing micro hardness.

Based on experience my friend before this, they are using the compaction method to getting the pellet shape for powder material of ceramic.
Plan to do for this experiment


1) dry the raw material (micro size) of SiC in the oven in the lab ceramic for 12 hours and cooling at furnace for 1 night. Temperature is 100 degree. To remove the moisture. And then put in humidity cabinet to maintain the material is dry

2) Compact the material in ceramic lab. The weight for previous experiment between 0.6- 0.7 gram.

3) Measure diameter and thickness. before this I do not get the diameter and thickness because fear to crack.-from my previous friend khairun

4) But..i should take to measure density and different of size for metal after and before sinter.

5) Sinter at 1400 degree and hold 2 hour

6) Rate is 6 degree per minute.

7) Cool in furnace for 1 night



I should find answer.

1) Why I need to study about this topic?

2) why I am follow the instruction as khairun?

- because topic is mention about study more in this thermal and hardness properties. I am need to always discuss with khairun and ezzah.

3) why sintered at 1400 degree and rate is 6 degree per minute and hold 2 hour and cooling 1 night?

4) why without milling?

5) why need to study properties after and before sintering?

- to know the different size of ceramic metal.
